Welcome in from the cold, as we kick off another comic roundup. This week Spidey is about to tangle with the underworld, we have some previews from 2000AD, DC takes us to the movies and we have a long running project nearing fruition. So grab a hot cocoa and let’s get this show on the road…

Prog 2015

Prog-2015This week see’s a bumper 2000AD issue hitting shelves. There bumper 100 page special Prog 2015 – goes on sale in the UK on the 17th December and in the US the 17th Jan. Its looking like a bumper edition, which will get us ready for the New Year.

With a cracking looking cover by Greg Staples this issue see’s the return of one of my favourite villains. This issue brings us the first part of a new Judge Dredd thriller – Dark Justice. With the return of The Dark Judges on the cards – this should prove a rather strong read.

Then we have several new serials beginning this issue, including a rather intriguing story called The Order, introducing us to Anna Kohl who is looking to find out more about her father and a secret order he once belonged to.

Also in this issue we see the return of the Visible Man, Max Normal and Savage. We’re also being treated to another one shot Dredd story. Sound like it could be the perfect read over the holidays.

The publisher very kindly sent us a preview copy.

Megazine 355

MegazineAlso just in time for the hols, is the Judge Dredd Megazine 355. This issue will go on sale on the same day as Prog 2015 and features a rather festive cover. In this issue we have a new Judge Dredd story beginning – entitled The Cop. We also have the classic Plagues Of Necropolis showcasing the Dark Judges.

There’s also some new stories featuring Demarco PI and American Reaper. It’s a bumper 130 page issue.

The publisher very kindly sent us a preview copy.

SpidermanMarvel announced a new adventure for Spiderman this week. Spidey’s had a lot happening in the last few years, but something about this announcement just grabbed me – if I’m being honest.

Next March will see Spidey taking on the Underworld in a new five part series – Spiral. Written by veteran Spidey writer Gerry Conway and artist Carlo Barberi.

Spidey will find himself squaring up against Hammerhead, Tombstone and even Black Cat as New York’s underworld scraps to name a new King of crime.

Its sounding like this could alter things quite a lot in Spidey’s world and it will be interesting to see who becomes the new King of crime!

Movie Cover Variants

DC-variant-coversNews has arrived this week for yet another months variant covers theme. I have to say from some of the ones I’ve seen, these are pretty damn cool.

March will see DC have a night at the movies theme – combining some of the cinemas most iconic movies and our favourite heroes.

Action Comics #40 has been inspired by Bill & Ted, whilst Aquaman sees inspiration from Free Willy. The cover for Batman looks incredible, based on The Matrix and then we have Batgirl crossing with Purple Rain.

I have to say these covers look amazing and so far there probably some of my favourite variants so far. Oh and you just have to check out the Teen Titans cover!

Arkham Knight

Arkham-KnightStaying with DC, this week they announced that upcoming video game – Arkham Knight will be getting a preview comic.

Not really unexpected, to be fair I was just expecting the official announcement. The digital first comic will launch in February next year, bridging the gap between Arkham City and Knight.

The preview will be written by Peter J. Tomasi with art by Viktor Bogdanovic. The game looks amazing and I’m sure the comic will be just as bad and a worthy read.

nonplayerA nice surprise was announced this week as an issue I’ve been waiting years for, is nearly finished.

Nate Simpson has made a lot of comics fans happy this week, by announcing that he has finally finished – Nonplayer #2. A comic that has been eagerly anticipated for the last three years!

Nonplayer #1 was originally released back in April 2011. It introduced us to Dana Stevens a young woman who is bored with her life. She retreat into a digital fantasy realm called Jarrah, where she’s a fearless warrior. However her fantasy and real life soon begin to intersect.

Thr original comic garnered critical acclaim, with Nate earning himself an Eisner award for best newcomer.

Theres no release date yet for #2 but I’m soo excited and can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Thats all for this week, till next time this is Cookie signing out…
