So we’re half way through November, the winter nights are setting in and Christmas is just around the corner. It’s time for another comic roundup – with an interesting new writer announced at Marvel, DC titles being put on hold and Dynamite has a new deal signed! Plus we have another 2000AD preview. What are you waiting for? Let’s jump straight in….

Prog 1908

prog-1908This week sees 2000AD unleash Prog 1908 hit comic book shelves. Another strong looking issue complete with cover by Greg Staples – this week featuring everyone’s favourite law man. The one – the only Judge Dredd.

The gangs at Gramercy Heights hit back against Dredd this issue with guns a blazing. Can Dredd retain control as the new block judge? Then we have a fight involving magic and dragons in Stickleback as the fate of London hangs in the air.

Blake steps up his action against the rest of the Grey Suits, as the government agency realises his personal memories have returned! Then finishing the issue we have Kingdom. Gene the Hackman takes on the Them in the skies – but has he bitten off more than he can handle? It’s another fast paced issue with some great art.

The publisher kindly sent us a preview copy.

CM Punk

CM-PunkThis week Marvel announced an interesting new writer was to join their ranks. Believe me, when I say you would never guess who it is in a million years. It took me by surprise and I’m really intrigued as to what this new writer can bring to the fold.

The new writer is none other than former WWE superstar CM Punk! Yes that’s right the former wrestler is looking to take on the world of comics. His first story will appear in Thor Annual 1 and will focus on a young Thor. So what do you think to that?

ConvergenceDC unveiled how the Convergence event would be published this week. The event will kick off with #0 on April the 1st. We will then have a weekly issue hitting comic book stores until #8 on May 27th. With hundreds of heroes, villains, numerous worlds and events taking place in one place at one time.

We will undoubtedly find out all 40 titles, which will make up this event over the next coming weeks along with the creative teams behind it all. All current DC titles except Digital First, Multiversity and children’s titles will be put on hold during April and May. To enable DC to move offices.

Teen Titans: Earth One

Team-Tinans-Earth-OneThis month sees the return of the Teen Titans! The team gets to start over as they met each other for the first time and get to grips with their new found super powers. This is all thanks to writer Jeff Lemire – who gets to reimagine the teams origin in Teen Titans:Earth One.

The graphic novel will be part of DC’s Earth One series of books. It will be interesting to see as it will focus more on original characters. Characters such as Raven, Beast Boy and Cyborg, I can’t wait to see this new version of the team and how they get along with out the likes of Robin and Aqualad.

ComicsFixThere’s a new service heading into the comic world. A new subscription service is looking to change how we read comics – a service called Comicsfix. Think of Netflix for comics, and you’ll get the idea. For just $9.95 per month you will get unlimited comics on various apps. With 24hour access. Sounds good, however what comics will actually be available.

Well Dynamite are looking to take a gamble on the new model, announcing this week that they are the first top ten publisher to sign up. You won’t have access to all their titles –but I have to admit there’s some tasty titles to read.

Titles that will be available include Legends of Red Sonja, Project Superpowers, The Blood Queen: Pathfinder and Battlestar Galactica to name a few. With the promise of more issues and full series added every week – if other publishers get on board. We may be witnessing a new way to enjoy comics.

That’s all for this week, till next time this is Cookie signing out….
