It’s July already, and time for the first comic roundup of the month. This week we have news from DC, Marvel and Vertigo. So get comfy and let’s get this show on the road…
This week has seen the launch of a new Infinity comic, Thanos: A God Up There Listening, is a new six part series. Starring Thane son of Thanos – this new series takes place after the events in Infinity. It looks set to be a tale of discovery and perhaps destiny, as Thane searches the galaxy in search of answers. Will Thane rise as a hero or follow in his dads footsteps, becoming a villain! It certainly sounds like an interesting tale, it will be good to see Thane develop more.
News from the world of Deadpool now, with a new four issue mini-series hitting newstands this October. Written by Spiderman 2099 scribe Peter David and illustrated by Scott Koblish. The new series entitled The Art Of War, looks set to combine Deadpool with Sun Tzu’s epic The Art Of War. This will mark David’s first time, handling the merc with a mouth! It’s certainly been added to my reading list….
Wonder Woman is getting a new creative team, DC announced this week. Taking over the series in November will be Meredith Finch and artist David Finch. The husband and wife team will take over the helm, so to speak with issue #36. The new team will be taking the character in a new direction, focusing less on Greek Mythology and more on Wonder Woman’s relationships and her duties to the Amazons, as well as her fellow heroes on the Justice League. This could be the beginning of a beautiful partnership, what do you think?
News has arrived regarding DC’s newest Digital First Series and boy is this going to be a must read. In 1960 Jiro Kuwata created Batmanga. A series, which has never been published outside of Japan until now! The first issue will be available on the 5th July. The entire body of work is over 1000 pages, and in keeping with the original will maintain the right to left reading sequence of the original. I cant wait to sink my teeth into this series, a true classic available at last.
The Kitchen has been announce by Vertigo this week, a new series by Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle. The new 8 issue mini-series, will be set in the seventies, and follows four mob wives. who get a taste for crime when their husbands are jailed. It’s being described as American Hustle with 70s taking over. This new series will hit news stands this November. It’s looking quite interesting, more on this as we get it.
When Valiant Entertainment returned as an active entity in 2012, not many thought it would grow as fast it has. With excellent direction and recognizable benchmarks, including it’s first crossover event. Now Valiant have named Warren Simons as it’s first Editor-in-Chief. Valiant seems to be grwoing stronger than ever, and personally I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us. Congratulations to Simons for his new appointment, I’m sure that he will steer them into even greater territory.
That’s it for this week, this is Cookie signing out….
