Another Sunday morning is upon us, and that can only mean one thing. It’s time for another comics roundup, with yours truly. This week we have new appointments, birthdays and a few other surprises. So grab a brew and a biscuit – its time to get this weeks roundup started.

Marvel

Spider-Man & The X-Men

spiderman Since the announcement of the Death Of Wolverine (look out for our review of issue 1 hitting the site soon,) one question has remained to be answered. What will become of the Wolverine & X-Men series? Well the answer has been revealed this week – and it knocked me for six.

Hitting comic book shelves in December is issue one of Spider-Man & The X-Men. That’s right everyones favorite neighborhood wall crawler will be joining the faculty of the Jean Grey School as a guidance counselor!

It’s going to be interesting to see how the students and teachers take to Spidey, as he joins the ranks – he’s not a mutant and definitely not a member of the family. The series will be written by Elliot Kalan and artist Marco Failla.

Elektra

Elektra News has arrived that Elektra is about to take the offense, in issue 6 of her current on-going series. Originally she took a contract to defend assassin Cape Crow, from the deadly assassins guild!

Now it looks like she’s decided to turn the tables, with the action ramping up to a new level. She’s had enough of waiting for guild to strike, and she’s about to strike herself. It’s been an interesting arc so far and I can’t wait to see how this new direction boosts the action.

Captain Marvel

Captain-Marvel Even though Marvel keeps rebooting our favourite characters. Resetting our favorite series to number 1, they certainly still keep an eye out for a big anniversary. In December one such anniversary is set to occur, with Carol Danvers set to make her 100th combined solo issue appearance.

The anniversary will be marked with Captain Marvel issue 10, and to mark the anniversary the issue will be a special oversized edition. The creative team will consist of Kelly Sue DeConnick, David Lopez, Marcio Takara and more.

The cover will also mark homage to the original Ms Marvel number 1. Its great that Carol has got to 100, and may she continue to her 200th anniversary in style.

ComiXology

DRM Free Backup

Comixology This week ComiXology have announced the second wave of publishers, who are going to participate in the DRM free backup service. This new service was announced in July during San Diego Comic-Con.

This service allows customers to download and store copies of their books, DRM free. It seems to be something a lot of publishers are taking on board – and offering to customers. The new raft of publishers include IDW Publishing, Valiant Entertainment, Oni Press, Fantagraphics Books, Aspen Comics, Action Lab Entertainment, Th3rd World Studios, A Wave Blue World and Kingstone Media.

It’s great to see these publishers offering us customers another choice. I wonder how many more will take advantage of this new service.

Dynamite

Shaft

Shaft This December, get ready for a blast from the past thanks to Dynamite. One tough take no crap detective is heading back into our lives. A star of a hugely popular TV show and a movie – everyones favorite hardboiled detective is back – Shaft is returning!

The new series will be helmed by David F. Walker and Bilquis Evely, and the new series will be launched in time to celebrate Shaft’s 45th anniversary. It certainly sounds promising, especially as the new series will focus on Shaft’s origins.

I can’t wait to see how Shaft appears in the comic form. Another classic getting a breath of fresh air.
